Cute as a Bug!!

Welcome to Sketch #689 with Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

It's been a while since I've created a slimline card so the timing of this sketch is awesome.

One of my 2026 goals is to use my stash/scraps and this small chunk of Cute as a Bug patterned paper was still sitting on my desk.  I had also cut out extras of the cute images from one of the patterned papers and they were part of my inspiration for my card for this challenge.

Aren't they just the cutest bugs!!  Supplies used include mossy meadow cardstock, Cute as a Bug paper collection and Adventurous Sky stamp set all from Stampin' Up, along with enamel dots from my stash.

We can't wait to see what you create with this weeks' sketch.  Simply add your project here.

Soccer Time!!

Good Morning & welcome to Sketch #687 from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

Lots of layers for this sketch.  You could use as inspiration for a card, scrapbook layout of mini album.

I used the sketch for a panel piece measuring 4" x 6" to go into my grandson's soccer mini album.  I used A Wonderful Match (Stampin' Up) black & white patterned papers to layer up the background.  Game On stamp set (Kraftin' Kimmie) Lucas image is my vertical focal point and I added some grass for colour.  (A Wonderful Match dies)

Now it's your turn to create & link up your project here.

Be sure to leave me a comment to let me know what you think.

Flower Child

Welcome to June and the next sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

This week's sketch just screams summer.  So fun to get into the garden & get your hands dirty.  Flowers bring such joy and a pop of colour after the long winter we had.

I pulled waaaaay back for this awesome stamp set "Flower Child" from CTMH.  This set reminds me of Anne Geddes pictures and I've loved it from first sight.  Images are again stamped using memento tuxedo black ink & coloured with copic markers.

I've popped up the sentiment & tucked each image behind.  Isn't that frame cute - Mintay Papers - Elodie was just perfect and forms a beautiful background.  I'm continuing with my "bust the stash" and pulled out some ribbon from Stampin' Up.

Please play along with us at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge by linking up your project here.  We can't wait to see your project.

Bbq time!!

Welcome to another weekly sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

We are finally experiencing some warmer temperatures, and spring flowers, just like the sketch.  That will bring us to BBQ & pool season!!!

I couldn't wait to ink up this cute image from CC Designs for my oldest brother's birthday card.  He is the "master" at BBQ'ing and takes over the tools at family functions.

I've stamped the image using Memento tuxedo black ink & coloured using Copic markers.  Images are popped up on foam dimensional tape.  I've used Carta Bella - By the Sea paper collection for both the solid & patterned papers.     Sentiment from "The Right Words"- Stampin' Up is stamped using Memento tuxedo black ink.  Continuing with my theme of using up the stash - the white star embellishments and burlap twine are from CTMH.

I do hope the sketch & my project inspire you to play along with us.  Remember to link up your project here.

Pooh!!

It's Monday & that means a new sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

I've been working on a long over-due project - my almost 5 year old grandson's first year album!  It's time to get this book finished.

I'm using the Baby Pooh line from Echo Park which is cuteness overload.  The sketch inspired me to create an embellishment card  I'll use on a scrapbook page.    The sentiment struck me knowing Jackson's personality - life is certainly an adventure with him.

Brothers!!

This months' sketch screamed scrapbook layout!!!  If you're like me you love a good jump off point whether you're a card maker or scrapbooker it gets the mojo going and this sketch is a good one.

I had some great random photos of my grandsons with their brothers.  They make me smile knowing they might fight like cats & dogs but are also best friends.

This is the layout I created from the sketch.  I let the paper shine with the large, colourful phrases.

I then built on the basic layout to create a two page spread.

I did change the "brothers" title from the original and used puffy stickers from the same paper collection to tie it to the second page.  After taking this pic,  I also added journaling on the "epic" page.

I can't wait to see what you create with this sketch.  Will it be a card, a scrapbook page or maybe a home decor item.  Please remember to link up your project at Atlantic Heart Sketch Challenge blog.

Happy Retirement - AHSC

Welcome to a fabulous sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!!  This week tested my math skills....

I remembered after my calculations I had a die that would have cut this grid for me - - ooops.

A friend & neighbour is retiring this summer & the fun cloud patterned paper was perfect to make a grid background.

I used "Good in the Woods" stamp set from Kraftin Kimmie Stamps for the image and a long loved & well used retirement stamp set from CTMH.

The image is coloured with Copic markers, and mounted on a simple white circle.    The kite & clouds are stickers from a partially used sticker sheet.  I'm still trying to use some items from my stash.

So my TIP for this week is "use your stash" & shop your own supplies!!

Pull out your grid die or test your math skills and play along with us this week at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

Fore

Welcome to this weeks' sketch for Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!!!

When I first look at a sketch I like to identify the various elements, and then plan out my project.  This sketch has three basic elements, one a herringbone or patterned paper, two a large focal image and three a sentiment and embellishments.

I've created the herringbone pattern using 3/4" strips of cardstock leaving the white core and trimming along the edges of the card base.

For my large focal image I've used a die from my stash and paper pieced a cute golf cart & bag.  The golfer image is coloured using copic markers and popped up with foam dimensional.  To finish off I've added the sentiment and three white embellishment dots.

We hope you'll play along with this weeks' sketch and link up your project here.

AHSC #673 - Velma Style

This weeks sketch from AHSC is all about the clean lines.

I'm all about the "clean & simple" cardmaking so this sketch is right in my comfort zone.

My daughter-in-law & son love "cosplay" and one of my daughter-in-law's characters is "Velma" from Scooby Doo.  Perfect image for her birthday card.

I've coloured the image using Copic markers, fussy cut & popped up with foam tape.  The sentiment is heat embossed (WOW) alabaster.

***TIP*** Although this pattern paper is from Fall Favourites - Echo Park the colours are perfect for this image.  Think outside the box with patterned papers & ephemera.  Use for other themes too.

I love to have you play along with us this week at AHSC.  Leave me a comment what you think of Velma!!

AHSC #671 - Such a Good Boy!

Happy March!!  It's time for this weeks' sketch from Michelle at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

I've created a birthday card for our oldest grandson with this weeks' sketch.  Notice I've turned the sketch 90 degrees.

I'm all about "using it up" in 2026.  That's not to say I don't make new purchases, but I am making a conscientious effort to check out the stash for previously loved items.   I had to dig deep for these card embellishments - mini brads and grosgrain ribbon (CTMH) and was pleased they matched great with new patterned paper from Echo Park.

**TIP ** -  Clean & simple with minimal embellishments are striking!

We do hope you'll play along with us at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge this week.  Remember to link up your project and check out all the DT work.

New Reader!!

Ready for this weeks' sketch at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

I'll admit this sketch had me stumped....

I've been working on a mini album for one of my grandsons who is beginning his reading journey.  The album hopefully will keep him not only interested in reading but also in journaling his thoughts about each book.  I'm using the Simple Stories flip book which measures around 6 1/4 x 8 1/4 and includes various pocket sizes.

I'm using Witches & Wizards paper collection (Echo Park) for the majority of his book.  For the sketch I cut approximately 1/2" strips of interesting words from the patterned paper, and cut apart a longer sentiment strip.

**TIP** - Use monochromatic patterned paper & sentiments (I've added three small dark green stars)

We're ready to record the 3rd book!!

Thanks for checking out my design using this weeks' sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.   Now it's your turn to get creative.

Sketch #667 Magic

This is a great sketch with clean lines & layers.  What magic will be created?

I love seeing a little person get bit by the book bug.  The joy that comes from picking up a book and getting lost in the story is magical.  Three of my four grandsons are starting their reading journeys and I couldn't be more proud.

Using Witches & Wizards (Echo Park) collection, I've layered the busy pattern paper pieces with solid pieces to create a pleasing background.

**TIP** - Use embossing folders to create a subtle pattern on solid colour cardstock for visual interest.

Books are a favourite gift & this card will be perfect for a special present.

Thanks for playing along with us at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge .

Toad-ally Awesome AHSC #665

Welcome back for another sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

I had fun playing with Toad from a great set called Game Up (CC Designs).  The image is inked using wicked black ink & coloured using my Copic Markers.  Toad is expressing his thanks for a toad-ally awesome gift!!

I punched a 2 1/2" circle and then found a scallop die to work with the circle.  The image is then popped up using foam dimensional tape.

**Tip**  If you have a longer sentiment stamp it's ok to cut apart the stamp set or stamp and then cut apart the words to work for your project.

I'm still using up items from my stash - the black stars are from CTMH.

I do hope you'll play along with us and link up your image at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  Welcome to 2026 & a new sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!!

After the busy holiday season we do hope you'll take a creative break & play along with us this week at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

We had a rule in our house when my boys were little "thank you" cards were a must.  It's important to let the gifter know you appreciate the time & effort they spent selecting the perfect gift just for you.

My 2026 goal or resolution is to use more of what I have - perhaps use up a tad bit of the stash!!

The blue in the sketch inspired me to use the beautiful Serenity patterned paper & stickers from CTMH.  I've used a circle element and stamped the "thanks" from another treasured CTMH stamp set.

TIP - use  foam tape (or extra cardstock layers) on elements to add dimension to your projects.

The gold glitter gems are also from my stash again from CTMH.

Don't forget to link up your project at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.
