Convention Fun

I'm home from CTMH Convention 2016.  It was so much fun.  I can't wait to share everything I've learned from some of the best!!!

So, until I get back into the grove of regular creating... I've just got to get these characters out of my head.
We were turned Inside/Out for the week.  Sadness needed a little handhold.

Yep there was plenty of Goofying around!!!

Meeting the man himself!!!  I told Mickey he was looking very handsome!!!!

The ever gracious Minnie was beautiful for her photo.
The main duck himself - Donald.  Can you believe he gave me a "peck" on the cheek?

So, where are we going next year?  We're headed to Salt Lake City, Utah!!!  A big thank you to the CTMH team, and especially to Pierre for always looking after his Canadians!!!

Enjoy,

Road Trip with Atlantic Hearts

This weeks sketch for Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge is such a sweet design by Michelle.

The banner and bow caught my attention right away and I wanted to be sure to incorporate those designs in my card.

So many friends are heading out on their summer road trips I thought this made a perfect card.

I used cards from Picture My Life Seaside as a jumping off point for my card, fussy cutting some for the banner and road trip.  I love using foam tape to pop images up for dimension.

A bit of ink distressing with dessert sand, and glacier thick twine and aqua dots finish off the card.

I hope you'll join us and link up your project.

Calypso

Calypso is one of the newest paper packages released in the Seasonal Expressions 2 and is the challenge for this week at Heart 2 Heart Challenges.

I love this fun summer Caribbean/Southern inspired paper package.  The patterns are so pretty and have such fun images of pineapples and flamingos, along with great geometric patterns.

I wanted to show how you could use the cute pieces from Calypso without stamping.  Gasp - no stamping...

The diagonal piece is cut from the Picture My Life card included in the paper package.  I "sewed" the pixie twine into the paper to provide some "umph" to this delicate card.

The hibiscus flower is from the complements and I added another flower popped up with foam tape.  The cute sentiment is also a piece from the complements.

A few black sparkles from the Calypso assortment finishes off the card.

On the inside of the card, I added a couple more hibiscus flowers and black sparkles.

I hope you'll check out all the design team projects at http://heart2heartchallenges.blogspot.ca/ and link up your take on Calypso.

Fairytale Birthday

Some days you've just got to colour!!!  That was the way I was feeling last week, so I stamped a number of my favourite images and simply sat down and coloured and coloured and coloured.  I'm feeling very zen right now!!!

There are certain images that although not CTMH are some of my favourites.  They speak to me...

You may not be a wine drinker but I bet you know someone who is.  This is an Art Impressions image and I just love how she is dispensing some wisdom to all who'll listen!!!

This image is fussy cut and popped up with foam tape to give even more dimension.

I used CTMH gold glitter paper, gold watercolour Picture My Life cards, and the stamp set Fairytale Birthday for the sentiment and her wand.

Time to get your colouring on...

Enjoy,

Magical with Atlantic Hearts

There is exciting brewing, anticipation in the air - a feeling of magic....  The countdown is on for Close to My Heart annual convention being held this year at Disney World, Orlando, Florida!!!!  It is such a busy, fun, creative week, so stay tuned, I'll be posting updates with some sneak peaks.

So, for this weeks' sketch challenge at Atlantic Hearts, I decided to use the new Magical papers featured in the Seasonal Expressions 2.

The cranberry and white polka-dot paper remind me of Minnie!!!

I backed the patterned paper with Sapphire cardstock and, of course, used the zip strip with the sentiment "This was my favourite" shown.

Is there anything more recognizable than Cinderella's castle?  This was embossed in silver and fussy cut with a white daisy border.  The stamp is from Fairy Tale Birthday B1534.

To finish it off, I used three white enamel stars twinkling over the castle.

This is Michelle's sketch.  Give it a try and post your creation at

Congratulations with Heart 2 Heart

This week's theme at Heart 2 Heart is "Congratulations".  For me, it was graduation congratulations.  I am so proud of my eldest son, Matthew as he graduates University of Ottawa (Canada) with his degree in Civil Engineering.  He has worked so hard on his education and I could not be more proud of what this young man has accomplished.

I, of course had to pull out all the stops on his graduation card.

Matt's specialty is structural engineering - buildings, bridges, tunnels etc.which I wanted to tie into his card.  The building complex was cut from the Artistry cartridge.  The windows have tiny acetate sheets for glass!!!

I wanted the cool background blueprint paper to show thru so I only backed the roof tops and doors with solid cardstock.    Tiny black sparkles form the door knobs.

The tassels on the graduation cap were made from waxy flax unwound and fringed.

Believe it or not the background paper is actually from a retired Halloween themed package - Nevermore.  It worked perfectly!!!

The sentiment inside is stamped in black and from a retired stamp set called A Thing Well Done.

If you're wondering why the building is purple - it is a tie to engineers who for whatever reason paint themselves purple during orientation.

Congratulations Matthew!!!

Groovy Retirement

Last year was not only my retirement, but also my brother.  He and I actually retired on the same date, October 31, 2015.   Pretty cool date to share!!!  So to celebrate his retirement his family had a 70's themed retirement party!!!

It was so much fun... 70's costumes, a disco ball, and of course 70's music.  The blue tuxedo worn by his son is almost a replica of what he wore at his wedding.  The yellow dress is actually from the 70's and was kept all this time.   Virginia wasn't sure what to think when the dresses were soooooo short!!!

I'm glad no one got pulled over that night - with big hair, peace medallion chains, fringe vests, and platform boots - it would have been quite the story to tell.

Enjoy,

Jennifer
